Host-Stage Windows VPS review

Host-stage.net domain was created in mid 2010 and it is protected by a private whois provider. Internet sites archive shows that the real start of host-stage hosting business was postponed till the summer of 2011, when they were offering first shared webhosting plans.

The VPS offer
Host-stage has a long and rather messy Terms of Service. When it comes to VPSes you are not allowed to using them for hacking activities, spamming or installing illegal software.
At the time of writing this review Host-stage offer consists of 8 VPS hosting plans. That’s quite a lot! All purchases are backed up with 30-days money back guarantee.
There are many different hosting plans: from very small 0.5GB RAM machines to huge 16GB RAM monsters. It means you can really tailor the hardware to your needs.

The servers are running on 1000Mbps connection with no bandwidth cap.

Support
Our Windows VPS was set up in 14 hours, however we made the purchase at night so it really means about 7 business hours. We got a standard confirmation email with all the details. The client panel is a standard WHMCS panel with no reboot, start or shutdown buttons for your virtual machine. In case of any troubles you have to open a support request. Host-stage can be contacted in several ways: support ticket from the client’s panel, email, forum private message. We tested the response time outside the usual business hours and got the replay back in … 8 minutes! Amazing! They are advertising 24/7 support with 1 hour response guarantee and I really believe in that.

VPS benchmark test
Ok, now let’s do some testing and get the numbers!

The Nova Benchmark shows the following results (on a 3rd level plan):

NovaBench Score: 322

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
Intel Xeon E51650 0 3.20GHz @ 3199 MHz

1024 MB System RAM (Score: 132)
- RAM Speed: 12406 MB/s

CPU Tests (Score: 172)
- Floating Point Operations/Second: 25592085
- Integer Operations/Second: 93395613
- MD5 Hashes Generated/Second: 1032931

Hardware Tests (Score: 18)
- Primary Partition Capacity: 75 GB
Drive Write Speed: 142 MB/s

What can we read from these numbers? This Windows VPS is a lively, well set up machine. The strong points are good RAM speed and quick HDD.

Now the network performance test, which is one of the most important aspects of your blackhat VPS.

The average internet upload speed is 253.38 Mb/s (very good!), while the average download speed is 223,81 Mb/s (very good!) – all measures taken with speedtest.net. The connection performance is rock stable for the upload (minimum 234.49 Mb/s / maximum 276.12 Mb/s) and fluctuates for downloads (minimum 142.79 Mb/s / maximum 398.88 Mb/s). Please note that it always stays above the 100Mb/s threshold – and you know that you’re getting what you’re paying for (1Gb/s port).

Our Gscraper instance installed on Host-Stage Windows VPS Level 3 plan was scraping at the speed of 23000 links per minute (default thread setting and public proxies).
The VPS is configured correctly and the system initially uses about 338 MB of RAM.
Now let’s see how comfortably you can work on your virtual machine form different locations:

Place Avg. ping
Germany 23 ms
Poland 22 ms
USA / Chicago 115 ms

The VPS if located in Europe – Roubaix (France), so if you’re accessing the machine from Europe you will have a very pleasant experience. The 115 ms ping time to USA is standard and still allows you to work comfortably
